3rd party software recommendations
e-obs logger generate a lot of different data. We offer some proccessing tools with the Data Decoder but mostly leave that to the experts themselves. Please check out our paper library for details on specific analysis. Here some 3rd party software recommendations that will get you started:
Movebank is a free online platform that helps researchers manage, share, analyze and archive animal movement data.
- archive animal movement data for future use, as controlled by the data owners.
- enable collaborations between researchers, students, conservation organizations and governments who are interested in animal movement.
- help scientists address new questions by combining datasets to test ideas related to ecological patterns, evolutionary processes and disease spread.
- promote open access to animal movement data, in particular when the data collection is publicly funded.
- allow the public to explore the amazing animal movements recorded by animal trackers.
Firetail is a commercial software developed by the Schäuffelhut Berger GmbH, Germany. It offers more options than movebank and its associated software tools to visualize, analyze and generally work with your data.
fast overview
Load all your tag’s sensor data, location, and acceleration. Get a complete picture your project!
efficient workflows
Be amazed by FIretail’s range of use cases for annotation, visuals, and reporting tasks. Fast and reliable.
in-depth analysis
Complex analysis benefits from Firetail’s interactive views, statistics and data embeddings.
Data Decoder
The DataDecoder is your primary tool to process recorded data. Please make sure to always use the latest DataDecoder version. New devices (BaseStations and/or animal tags) may have a new version of onboard software (firmware) which requires a new DataDecoder! Generally all new DataDecoder versions can also process data (logger.bin-files) coming from older devices, therefore it is normally not necessary to keep older DataDecoder versions.

You can use WINE to run the Windows Version (see above) of the data decoder within MAC OS X Catalina. Customers told us, that you start the data decoder on the command line like this: „wine64 decoder_v14_win64.exe“. Alternatively you can install Microsoft Windows on your MAC and then use the data decoder version for Windows.
